The greatest gift you can give a child is a safe and stable place where they belong. The Club is this for over 350 kids across three sites in Bemidji and Blackduck, no matter who they are or what family looks like for them.
Club member Ellie, 10, now lives with her grandparents and their family dog, who she fondly calls her “little brother.” It might not look the same as other families, but it’s a home filled with love.
“We aren’t alone in the world of unique families,” said Laurie, her grandmother. Ellie is a loveable kid, and the Club gives her an opportunity to make meaningful friendships, build her social skills, and practice being a leader, Laurie shared. “And she’s in a safe environment.”
As Ellie’s grandparents know, the Club can make a difference in a child’s life. They understand the importance of keeping Ellie engaged and active. When the chance came for her to join the new Blackduck Branch in September, they jumped at it because they had heard such great things about the Clubhouse in Bemidji.
Going to the Club is the highlight of Ellie’s day. It’s a consistent place for her to grow and have fun with supportive and caring Club staff each week. The Club is somewhere Ellie feels a sense of belonging, just like it is for the hundreds of other kids we serve.
