ABOUT THE AREA:
The Boys & Girls Club of the Bemidji Area (BGCBA) is a nonprofit 501C youth development organization located in Bemidji, MN, a regional center for economic development, health services, shopping, arts, entertainment, outdoor activities and government services. Bemidji is the first city on the Mississippi river with over 400 crystal clear fishing and recreational lakes in a 25 mile radius, 500 miles of snowmobile trails, 99 miles of cross country ski trails, hundreds of miles of bike trails for outdoor enthusiasts. Known as the curling capital of the world and home to Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue ox statues, the historic downtown features chic shops, eateries, a brewery, a science center, live theatre and new art center. Bemidji is a college city with strong art influences and buzzes year-round as the host for many festivals, competitions, tournaments, marathons and more. Boys & Girls Club of the Bemidji Area was founded in 2003 and is led locally by a dedicated team of professionals and local board of directors with expertise in youth development, business and financial management, marketing and communications, volunteer engagement, community awareness and outreach. Affiliated with Boys & Girls Club of America, BGCBA staff and board have access to a network of 4000 Club professionals across the country and national staff support in the areas of program curriculum and evaluation, HR and technical support, childhood safety, marketing and fundraising templates, tools and professional advice. Through Boys & Girls Club of America, board and staff may attain professional development opportunities and targeted pass-through funds for local youth. The Club has experienced strategic growth since 2014. This growth has led to more youth served, greater community awareness and special event success, and financial and in-kind support of over $750,000 annually. As a key community organization, the Club partners actively with over 25 local agencies, has generous support from over 400 volunteers and 550 donors, flourishing partnerships with local businesses, foundations and community programs. BGCBA’s vibrant Clubhouse, a 35,000 sq. ft. facility, located within the center of Bemidji, touches the lives of more than 600 youth directly through academic, health and leadership programs to guide them toward their great future.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Resource Development Director (RDD) will implement a comprehensive resource development (RD) strategy to generate revenue by increasing individual donor engagement, businesses and corporation sponsorships, foundations and grantor investments and be responsible for the management of special events, campaigns and major gift strategies. The RDD will lead all marketing, public relations and stewardship efforts of donors and prospects ensuring they remained connected, informed, and passionate about the Boys & Girls Club of the Bemidji Area.

REPORTS TO: Executive director/CEO

Leadership

• Work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to build a culture of philanthropy.
• Manages, trains and develops the resource development team (staff and volunteers) to ensure productivity and commitments to revenue goals are met. Serves as an information resource on fundraising strategies.

Strategic planning
• Working collaboratively with the Executive Director, staff, and Board, develop and organize an annual resource development plan and calendar to coordinate all fundraising and marketing activities to maximize resources to meet budgets for single and multi-year resource development efforts.
• Strategize with Executive Director and Board to research and identify individual and corporate prospects to increase donor base and network.
• Collaborate with Executive Director and Board to evaluate overall results of Resource Development Plan and recommend new data driven approaches to support successful achievement of development goals.
• Recruit and cultivate strategic partnerships with donors, community leaders, volunteers, organizations and others with an interest in resource development activities.

Resource development
• Manage the planning and implementation of all fundraising strategies, campaigns and special event activities. This includes personally soliciting gifts and obtaining sponsorships for campaigns and events.
• Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential investors, creating specialized proposals and support materials with the intent to retain or upgrade investments when possible. Additionally, create and equip Executive Director, Board, and key staff/volunteers with proposals to engage them in donor solicitations.
• Manage/report on a portfolio of prospects for corporate, endowment, major gifts and planned giving.
• Maintain an active schedule of cultivation and solicitation meetings with current and prospective corporate and individual donors; expand the number of total donors who invest in the Club.
• Manage record keeping/donor database for all donors, assuring effective administrative and operational support functions are in place.
• Recruit and cultivate relationships with donors, community leaders, volunteers, organizations and others with an interest in resource development activities.
• Ensure current RD policies and procedures align with laws, statues, and Boys & Girls Club literature.
• Develop and implement annual stewardship plan to assure proper acknowledgement of all gifts.
• Write competitive grant proposals for new and existing foundation and corporate support.

Marketing and public relations
• Develop and maintain public relations to increase the visibility of programs, services and activities within the Club and the community.
• Create and/or oversee materials to promote campaigns/events and programs to public including invitations, posters, brochures, public service announcements, newsletter, social media, website, etc.
• Conduct face-to-face presentations.
• Prepare correspondence, proposals, and reports as outlined in the RD and stewardship plans.

Additional responsibilities
• Participate in training, webinars, workshops and professional development as requested.
• Participates in key community groups, attend important community events, and support the Club’s special events and program initiatives.
• Assume other duties as assigned.

Relationships
Internal: Maintains oral and written contact with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions, provide direction and advise/counsel.

External: Maintain oral and written contact with external groups, donors, prospects, alumni, media, and others to achieve program goals and objectives, manage costs, share information, and resolve problems, as well as for obtaining referrals and help in solving issues. Frequent contact with community members to maintain current knowledge in field and to discuss donor interests and appropriate giving methods.

Skills/knowledge preferred
• Four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience
• A minimum of three years work experience in relevant fundraising activities and a proven track record of accomplishment
• Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work with all types of people with diverse personalities to develop effective working relationships and partnerships
• Working knowledge of grant preparation, reporting, and solicitation
• Excellent verbal communications and presentation skills
• Effective written communication with ability to write clearly and persuasively
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage multiple fundraising projects
• Positive customer relation skills and attitude
• Ability to provide recommendations solutions to problems with limited supervision; work independently
• Superb computer skills (including Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher)
• Knowledge of accessing and utilizing data via donor software program
• Ability to be flexible for meetings and events on evenings and weekends
• Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment; maintain high degree of confidentiality and discretion
• High energy level, comfortable performing multi-faceted tasks in conjunction with the day-to-day activities
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and develop solutions to problems with limited supervision
• Required: valid driver’s license and ability to pass background and credit check
• Required: fluent in English
